Training needs to be fun, effective and safe
The Myths in Martial Art, the days when students would be tested for their commitment by spending painfull hours in a low 'horse stance' and doing thousands of 1 handed press ups are gone. We understand that trying something new especially martial arts can be quite daunting! With that in mind, during your free week trial an instructor will be on hand to work with you and ease you into your martial art training and get you up to speed so you progress into the various classes that we offer. Many students attend classes for recreation as an alternative method of toning up and getting fit, benefits can include increased CV fitness, improved co-ordination, greater flexibility, enhanced muscular strength and endurance and a reduced body fat.
Effective
We do pride ourselves on teaching effective martial art, whether it is Kick / Thai Boxing, Kali or Mixed Martial Art. You are in the fortunate position of being able to learn from instructors who have been taught by the worlds leading martial art exponents. A claim many clubs may advertise, although may find harder to prove. Many years ago a man known as Bruce Lee revolutionised the martial art world with his concepts and training methods. His training partner and close friend was a man called Dan Inosanto who after Lee's death, continued his research. Today Inosanto is recognised as one of the worlds greatest martial artists and in the UK has only 4 Full Instructors qualified to teach, one of which being the Director of the Gladiator Academy - Phil Norman. Phil also spent many years training with 5 x World Kick Boxing Champion Trevor Ambrose and has competed successfully in intenational Cage Fighting events. So you can be assured that the techniques are effective and do work!
Safe
Safety is our number one priorty. We reduce the likelyhood of injury by leading students through specific warm ups and cool downs. we will also encourage you to work to your own fitness level and gradually progress this over time. As we are developing martial/combat techniques we tend to develop power on strike pads as opposed to punching the air or each other. Here are a few safety steps you can take when coming to class for the first time.
Wear suitable clothing, regular sports attire would be appropriate.
Bring a bottle of water. Concentration and physical performance can be impaired by slight dehydration. We encourage water intake during classes.
Remove Bling! It would be a shame to lose or damage personal jewellery. Injuries can occur, so for your own protection if it is possible leave it at home.
Sparring is only permitted whilst wearing the correct equipment and under supervision
