"I started with one friend and soon became hooked so when that friend gave it up after a few weeks I decided to drag another friend down. The reason why I loved kickboxing so much, because you could certainly feel you had exercised but it was fun! I had previously tried going to the gym and various aerobics classes but I was always watching the clock just waiting for the time to pass - it was so boring, but at kickboxing you don't have the chance to watch the clock and are always surprised at how quickly the time goes - its certainly never boring! "
Nina also likes the social side. As well as training Nina was pleased to find that the club also arranged various social events, enabling you to get to know the people you are training with. This made it easier to pair up with someone else to train with so she didn't need to worry about relying on a friend come with her all the time.
Nina trained hard and graded regularly and in March 2005 passed her black belt under 5 x world kick boxing champion Trevor Ambrose. She found this very challenging but the effort she had put into training was rewarded with the honour of being the first ever female black belt within the club. Nina also found herself as a role model for other students who were not so competitive in nature but still wanted to grade, proveing that you don't need to be a full contact fighter to get to a black belt!
Nina went on to assist the instructors in classes with teaching and then onto running my own classes within the club. Nina has reputation for running a very physical class. and likes her students to know that they have had a good workout!
Nina has become a very important member of the club assisting in the day to day running and the planning and managing of club events. She continues to this day to maintain a strict training program, and gives a lot of her time to oversee the training and preparation for gradings. She also has become the grading examiner for the Juniors and attends seminars to further her knowledge, despite all the additional time she puts into the club she is adamant about the qualities and requirements for good instructor
"I still like to train as much as possible, as I strongly believe to be able to teach others you need to still be learning yourself and there is never a time when you stop learning."
